So far in Spain....

Hello everybody!
This is my new blog (obviously). I meant to start it quite some time ago, (like the night before we left for Spain, so that would be like, what, about three months ago?) but better late than never, right? (I actually kind of hate that expression; I think its the procrastinator's "go to" saying, and here I am using it. Annoying.)
The one word I would use to describe these last three months is adventure. I love this word, but I am every day learning all that it entails.
Let me first start by saying that this journey my husband John and I have had so far here has been one of extreme frustration, but extreme joy and exploration as well. I am continually learning that a lot of times, these things go hand in hand. Like Mcmanus says in "Seizing your Divine Moment," just because something isn't easy doesn't mean it wasn't meant to be; just because God didn't lay something out perfectly doesn't mean that it wasn't intended for you. In other words, even though parts of this experience has been a thorn in my behind, it doesn't mean that the crazy decision to move thousands of miles away from home was a gigantic mistake.
So far, John and I have made a lot of new friends, both Spanish and English-speaking. We have learned a lot of the ins and outs of Spanish culture (like how every time somebody asks how old I am after I tell them I am married to prepare for the look of horror that comes over their faces, to look out for old ladies on the sidewalks because they will run into you, or that if you need food on Sunday to forget about it), and we have loved every minute of it (ok, well most of the minutes). Although I have been teaching a lot of English, I have also been learning (along with Johnny), a lot of Spanish. I developed a new trick to learn words: if an English teacher at my school says something in English that I know I would not be able to translate into Spanish, I look it up and write it down. I think its working so far. As for John, he is learning SO much. He is even starting to speak... its exciting! I told everybody I was going to linguistically "push him out of the nest" and make him do all the talking after month one, but like this blog, that didn't happen until a whopping three months later (and I still don't make him say everything).
As for places we have been.... we have been to Madrid, Toledo (which is a-ma-zing), and Almagro (a little town outside of Moral de Calatrava where I work). Every time we go somewhere new it is so fun. Making memories in Spain with my husband sometimes is so unreal... I am extremely blessed.
Speaking of extremely blessed... in two weeks John and I will be going to London, England for Christmas! I can't believe we are going... sometimes I have to ask myself... is this really my life? To make things even more ridiculous, my brother-in-law Mark and his girlfriend Natalie are meeting us in Madrid on December 28th and from there we will go to Paris and then to Barcelona. SO many pictures and SO many memories will be taken/made!
Well... I swear I won't make every post this long. And also, next time I will definitely figure out out to upload stinkin' videos/photos onto this thing.

Talk to you later... and remember, as Jack Johnson would say, "Don't let your dreams be dreams."

  1. AHHH!! I'm so jealous but so excited for you and John! I'm glad you are having fun even though everything hasn't worked out perfectly. But you are still in Spain doing something you've always wanted to do! I miss you dearly and can't wait to see what you post next! Love you!!
